This is a mountainous heavily wooded tract with scenic beauty and panoramic views.

Park Description:

There are scenic views, one to the west and one to the east of the Tappan Zee Bridge framed by the New York State Thruway cut at Nyack. A wet area near the top, named Bear Swamp, supports a variety of bird and animal life.

Trails Overview:

The Mountain Trail (Orange, 1.15 miles) is the principal trail from its western trailhead near Strawberry Hill Lane to beyond Sugarhill Road meeting up with the Long Path, to skirt an an orphaned segment of the park on the eastside of Mountainview Avenue.  All this is made clearer by viewing the Web Map link on this site.

Several other shorter trails within the main section of the park make loop hikes possible, but this is a rugged park to hike in spite of the park's compact boundaries. Here a sample from a detailed description of a loop hike:

• “The park is situated on the side of a mountain, and the hike – although relatively short – involves an elevation gain of over 400 feet and a traverse of a narrow, rocky footpath that runs along the hillside.” Then on the return loop ... 
• “ This rugged section of the trail you are about to traverse is aptly described by its name “Goat Path.” The trail descends on a narrow, rocky footpath that curves around the side of the hill. It climbs a little, but then levels off and continues along a rocky footpath that follows a narrow sidehill track. Extreme caution should be exercised if the trail is covered with snow or ice; some kind of traction aid (such as Stablicers or Microspikes) is highly recommended under these conditions.”
